Interview: Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato spills the beans in this interview about her musical idols, how many hugs she gave Kelly Clarkson when she met her and gives some inside goss on Camp Rock 2.

WHO ARE YOUR MUSICAL IDOLS?

Some of my musical idols include definitely Kelly Clarkson because she is my number 1 idol and she has an incredible voice. And also John Mayer his lyrics and guitar playing and voice never cease to impress me.

YOU SAY ONE OF YOUR CURRENT INSPIRATIONS IS KELLY CLARKSON; HAVE YOU MET HER AND ARE THERE PLANS FOR YOU TO WRITE WITH HER?

I have met her and she was so down to earth, one of the nicest people ever. I gave her 3 hugs because I was so excited to meet her! I definitely would love to write with her sometime, I think we even talked about it. We have stayed in touch; she is a really sweet girl. So hopefully for the third album we can work something out, she’s incredible.

HOW DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR PASSION FOR MUSIC?

My passion for music came from when I was younger I would sing around the house, in the shower and things like that. When I stepped on stage for the first time it was incredible and I knew that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

YOU RECENTLY FILMED CAMP ROCK 2; CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE STORYLINE BEHIND THIS FILM?

Camp Rock 2 is about a rival music/performance camp called Camp Star starting up. This throws Camp Rock for a loop and there is a rivalry between the two, so a big competition is set up and one of them has to be eliminated so you find out which camp wins! There is a lot of drama, and a lot of romance, music, dancing and singing so I think people are going to be really excited when they see the film.

DID YOU ENJOY FILMING THE SEQUEL AND WERE THERE ANY FUNNY MOMENTS YOU CAN TELL US ABOUT?

I really enjoyed doing the sequel and one of the funny things that happened was Nick and I were doing a scene in front of around 1500 extras and in the scene we were in sitting in seats watching people on the stage. At one point Nick stood up and there was a coke can on the ground and he kicked it! We were laughing at him which made him then start kicking it again, and he started kicking it really really hard and I guess that the entire audience thought that he was dancing because they all started applauding. So then we were laughing even harder because all of a sudden 1500 people just started cheering and he was beating up a coke can! That was one of the funniest times!

“HERE WE GO AGAIN” IS YOUR SECOND ALBUM: DID YOU FIND IT MORE DIFFICULT OR EASIER TO MAKE THAN YOUR 1ST ALBUM “DON’T FORGET”?

I found it a lot easier to make my second album because I had more of an idea of what I wanted to do the second time around, whereas when I made the first record I didn’t quite know what I was doing yet!

HOW DO YOU THINK THE TWO ALBUMS DIFFER FROM EACH OTHER?

I think the first album differs from the second album because like I said in the first album I didn’t really know what I was doing and a year later my music sense had changed. So the second album is definitely different as it shows how much I have grown as a musician and a vocalist.

WHERE DOES YOUR INSPIRATION COME FROM?

My inspiration mainly comes from most of my fans because they are 100% supportive. But it also comes from experiences that I have been through, heartbreak, falling in love, falling in what I think is love, growing up and being a teenager.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE WORKING WITH JOHN MAYER?

John Mayer is awesome, he is the funniest dude ever and he really is super talented so I had a great time working with him.
