February 2024 Favourites

Happy February! This month we share Petra Bagust’s podcast, a book about tennis star Naomi Osaka, the new Mean Girls film, a great brunch recipe and a new account to follow!

What to listen to: Grey Areas with Petra Bagust
You’ll likely recognise Petra Bagust from one of her TV or radio spots over her impressive decades long career in the industry but you may not have heard her Grey Areas with Petra Bagust podcast. The good news is there are three seasons to get your ears around with episodes featuring some raw, honest and needed chats about topics and wonderful guests. You can listen on your favourite podcast streaming platform now. Image: Petra Bagust

What to read: Naomi Osaka by Ben Rothenberg
As Tennis mania swept down under this past month, a new book about tennis star Naomi Osaka was fresh in bookstores. Author Ben Rothenberg has followed Naomi’s career since 2014 and covers the impact she’s had while in the sport in this book. ‘This riveting book is not just about tennis… it’s about race, class, mental health, fame and what it really takes to make a world champion’ – Magda Szubanski. Image: Naomi Osaka

What to watch: Mean Girls
‘You know what! It’s not my fault you’re like, in love with me, or something!’ Mean Girls is back on the big screen and in an epic way – as a film adaption of the Mean Girls stage musical. The 2024 film takes on some parts of the iconic original movie, has a kick-ass soundtrack and has Tina Fey back in the mix so you know it’s going to be a good watch. Image: Mean Girls

What to eat: Brunch-is-up recipe
Okay, how good does that brunch dish look in the photo?! I’m a big brunch fan so when I saw this recipe from dish, aptly titled ‘Brunch-is-up’, I thought it would be perfect to share here. Leave the bread tucked away in its bag for this one – instead whip up a mixed vegetable rosti (yum!) and pair it with eggs and roasted tomatoes – here’s the recipe: https://dish.co.nz/recipes/brunch-is-up-mixed-vegetable-roesti/ Image: dish

Who to follow: We Care Ourselves
Shout out to the Instagram algorithm for this one! One of the posts from the We Care Ourselves IG account came up on my explore page so I wanted to share the page – the post was ‘You look happier since you…’. I recommend checking their account out and seeing if any of their posts resonate with you as well – @wecareourselves_. Their bio is ‘Kindness is cool’, I totally agree.
