Exercise: Top 5 fun and social ways to work out

If you are anything like me, working out is not something I traditionally look forward to. In fact I avoid it all together. I have had multiple gym memberships in my life and never used them.

If I am going to exercise, it needs to be social, fun, challenging in a good way and I have to be motivated and inspired to get my butt moving.

Here is my TOP 5 fun and social ways to work out without feeling like you are working out.

Pole Dancing

A little known fact, I taught Pole Fitness for a while a few years back because I became so obsessed with how fun this work out was. It is great for confidence and you learn quickly how good it is for your core. Grab a group of girls and give it a go.

Dance Class

I miss dancing so much. There are some great classes around town that are challenging but also easy enough that no matter how skilled your group is everyone will have a good time. I would look at anything Gandalf Archer teaches in New Zealand or Brinn Nicole in Los Angeles.

Hiking

Hiking has quickly become my favourite thing to do in LA to exercise. Grab a friend and climb a mountain, it’s really that simple! Not only can you catch up on life, you are also breathing in the fresh air and a good dose of vitamin d. If you are in Auckland I’d recommend a tramp around Rangitoto, you can make it a half-day trip.

Tiggy or Bullrush

I don’t know the last time you chased your friends around trying to catch them, but let me tell you, after 5 minutes you will be breaking a sweat! Since summer is just around the corner, get a group of your mates together, head to one of our many beautiful parks, take along some food and play some old school games!

Paddle Boarding

Paddle boarding anyone! Paddle boarding is great for your core and your arms plus it is relaxing. I recently purchased an underwater snap lock cover for my phone so I can take it out on the water and take a few snaps – selfie anyone! Oh and remember to pack and wear sunscreen.

  1. I’d love to try pole dancing as long as I don’t join the YouTube pole dancing fails 🙂

  2. I have been wanting to try pole dancing for a really long time, but never thought i’d be strong enough, but I’m sure a beginners class would be perfect!
