Where to eat in LA – #notatourist

LA is known for two things when it comes to food, its unhealthy and healthy food… here are a few of my recommendations for both…

1. For BBQ – Boneyard.

Americans do BBQ a little differently then we do in New Zealand and you MUST try it.

Boneyard is by far the best BBQ I have had in LA. My recommendation is to go with a group of 3 or more so you can enjoy their platters and give everything a try. The bacon cubes are a must!

2. For a drink or a date – Katsuya

This amazing sushi restaurant is also home to the only alcoholic drink I will drink… the ‘Burning Mandarin’. The food is a little on the expensive side but you will not be disappointed. Side note, Americans don’t mix chicken and sushi, so be prepared to eat a lot of fish, and try some some of their baked rolls.

3. For a great lunch – Sessions West Coast Deli

If you’re after a sandwich that you’ll keep thinking about days later then this is a must. They are located right near the beaches and the menu is full of different flavours. This is definitely one of the coolest delis I’ve ever seen!

4. For a date or meeting – Granville

This place has a cool vibe no matter what time of day. They have a healthy menu and they make everything on site. Even if you are watching what you eat you MUST order the Uptown Mac and Cheese to share. You wont regret it, its so good!

5. For Brunch – Malibu Farm

Located at the end of the pier in Malibu this is the perfect brunch spot. Delicious food with a view out to the surfers and dolphins.

I love going for an early morning paddle board followed by brunch here. The potatoes are addictive!

6 If you aren’t afraid to get messy – Joe’s Crab Shack

I’m a huge fan of having permission to get messy at a restaurant and they are fans of this at Joe’s. In fact they even supply you with a bib! A food coma is guaranteed. Make sure you also order the corn; I don’t know what they put on it, but IT IS GOOD!

Don’t know about you, but now I’m hungry … Uptown mac and cheese anyone? Oh and remember to pack your Visa and if you lose it or have it stolen – they’ll replace it, even while you’re travelling*. Easy! Want some more travel inspiration? Head here.
