Kimberley’s Blog: Fringe Festival fun

Wow I have been living in Edinburgh, Scotland for a week already (I say live because technically for the next month this is where Katie and I are based).

We are here as part of the Fringe Festival. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is an annual month long event where the worlds most talented and creative people come to showcase their skills to the world. The likes of ‘Flight of the Concords’ and other world class acts where ‘found’ here. To be part of all this is very exciting.

Edinburgh is a beautiful city. It is a dream of mine to live in a castle one day, so I have say living down the street from one, is very cool.

I have already seen quite a few of the festival shows With 3,000 shows on in the city it’s pretty overwhelming to plan your day by only selecting a few. Highlights so far have been seeing some kiwis kill it on stage. Michael Hurst, Joseph Moore and Rhys Mathewson to name a few.

I was blown away by Vikki Stone. She is a female comedian who also has a beautiful voice and very musically talented. Her one women show was entertaining, creative and had me in hysterics for an hour. I am fascinated with stand-up comedy.

I have been working on my comedy a lot over the past year and really feel like learning how to do stand-up would be terrifying and also be so far out of my comfort zone that I will no doubt love it and learn lots. So Katie and I have decided that when we get back to LA we are adding it to our long ‘to do’ list. I am excited to be here and continue getting inspired here at the festival.

Learning has been the theme of the week I feel. I have already learnt a lot about myself and from what I already know about traveling, they come hand in hand. Unfortunately our week was a bit of a roller coaster with two bodies being found in our hotel and all of us being evacuated. Katie’s props for the show not arriving in time for rehearsals and our luggage not arriving… but that was balanced out with a pretty city, shopping trips, castle tours, comedy and yummy food. So we still managed to wake up and go to sleep with smiles on our faces.

Looking forward to the week ahead and what adventures are in store!
