WHAT DOES YOUR JOB INVOLVE?
Make Up!! A lot of my work is for TV so shows like X Factor, NZ’s Got Talent and Cadbury Dream Factory. I also have a few regular private clients who’s make up I do for events. Plus balls, magazine editorials and weddings (which i love cause i’m a hopeless romantic).
HOW DID YOU LAND YOUR JOB?
My job was originally a hobby of mine. I was a dancer all my life so would love doing my make up for competitions and started doing it for friends when I was at University. I also used to go into the MAC counter all the time to buy products and ask a million questions (like a crazy stalker). A job opening came up and the manager suggested I apply for it and much to my surprise I ended up getting it, so there begun my make up career.
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU DON’T LIKE ABOUT YOUR JOB?
Early starts. Some mornings can start at 5am. Those are the five cups of coffee mornings!
WHAT ARE THE BEST PERKS ABOUT YOUR JOB?
The people you get to work with and meet and I also love the fact I get to do different projects all the time! No two days are the same!
WHAT’S THE HARDEST PART?
Transporting my make up kit which is about 15 kgs! I have had to run thru airports amazing race style dragging this behind me! I look especially graceful pulling this up and down flights of stairs…… in heels…….
WHAT SUBJECTS AT SCHOOL WOULD YOU RECOMMEND STUDENTS TAKE?
I know a lot of other make up artists did Art subjects….. I did all science and maths subjects at school then did a BSc at University so I think this goes to show if you love something enough and invest the time and energy there are no limits on what you can do.
