November Favourites

Happy November a.k.a second to last month of the year, phew 2020 has gone by and it’s been a big one (understatement I know). Hope everyone is keeping well in this continuously weird time!

This month we share the biggest night in kiwi music, taking a roadtrip while it’s just locals in our country, a new book, Rose Matafeo’s new comedy flick and new tunes to add to your playlist!

Music: Aotearoa Music Awards
The biggest night in New Zealand music is back with a fresh name (was formerly the Vodafone NZ Music Awards) and even bigger line-up than ever before with 19 (yes 19!) performances including BENEE, Paige, Six60, L.A.B, Stan Walker, Tami Neilson, Tiki Taane, CHAII, Church & AP, The Beths and Jawsh 685. There are an array of artists up for the 20 awards to be announced on the night, including the People’s Choice Awards which you can vote for via The Edge right now! Tickets are only $25 (from Ticketmaster) if you’re in Auckland otherwise catch it live on The Edge TV & Three on Sunday 15th November.

Travel: A Rotorua Roadtrip
Rotorua, or ‘Rotovegas’ as it is locally known as, may not have the most pleasant welcoming smell however the area’s offerings makes it worth it. Personally I had gotten to a point where a mental health break from personal and work commitments was well overdue so I jumped in the car for a mid-week break to Rotorua with my bestie (who had never been so was a great excuse to also go there!) and we had the best time – I highly recommend the Redwoods Forest Treewalk (pictured) – both the day and night options were so nice, it was refreshing to be so close to town but also able to escape to nature! If you are into hand feeding cute Wallabies and farm animals, Paradise Valley will be your jam and you can’t go past a bit of adrenaline, taking in the sights and racing down the mountain on the Luge!

Book: Ally Brooke – Finding Your Harmony
American musician and former Fifth Harmony member Ally Brooke has bundled up the raw stories of her journey including details of her family, first performance, her hometown love and how she ‘overcame everything’. Ally says “There’s one story in particular I can’t wait for you to read, I hope this book can shine the brightest light in your life, for anyone who needs it. Get ready to laugh, cry and rejoice, and smile your heart out.” Finding Your Harmony is out now online and in book stores.

Film: Baby Done
The director and also the writer of Fantail brings Kiwi film Baby Done to cinema screens with NZ funny woman Rose Matafeo and British actor Matthew Lewis (who you may recognise from his early days in Harry Potter) at the helm. The flick follows a long-term couple Zoe (Matafeo) and Tim (Lewis) on their journey to parenthood with Zoe rushing to tick off the ‘wild things’ on their list before the baby arrives and as you can imagine, a bit of chaos ensues. Baby Doneis in cinemas now, go have a laugh and support local!
