April 2024 Favourites

Happy Autumn/April! This month we share Rachel Bilson’s podcast, a book from pop culture icon RuPaul, Zendaya’s new big screen movie Challengers, a classic recipe and Steven Bartlett’s Instagram + upcoming Auckland event!

What to listen to: Broad Ideas with Rachel Bilson & Olivia Allen
You’ll likely recognise the co-host for this podcast, Rachel Bilson, from her days on The O.C. and Hart of Dixie. She’s joined by her long-time best friend Olivia Allen in this weekly series, Broad Ideas, getting candid (aren’t those just the best type of chats!) across a number of topics with a variety of guests including Dylan Sprouse, Ashlee Simpson, Katey Sagal, Audrina Patridge, Ariel Winter and Vanessa Morgan. You can listen to Broad Ideas on Spotify, Apple and YouTube. Image: Broad Ideas

What to read: The House of Hidden Meanings by RuPaul
Pop culture icon and drag superstar RuPaul has released his ‘most revealing’ book to date, one that is a ‘deeply intimate memoir of growing up Black, poor, and queer in a broken home to discovering the power of performance, found family, and self-acceptance.’ I’ve loved watching the different versions of his iconic show Drag Race, including our own Down Under version, and can’t wait to read this ‘stripped bare’ book. The House of Hidden Meanings is out now. Image: Harper Collins

What to watch: Challengers
Emmy winner Zendaya joins The Crown’s Josh O’Connor and West Side Story’s Mike Faist in this sporty drama romance film. Challengers follows a love triangle engrossed in the hugely popular sport, tennis, where former friends and ex partners become intertwined… What could go wrong?! You can check out all the action when Challengers premieres on the big screen later this month (18th April). Image: Challengers Movie

What to eat: Hearty minestrone
As the weather begins to cool and daylight savings comes to an end (a true and lasting sign that Summer is totally over!), it is a great time to have some classic recipes up your sleeve like a Hearty Minestrone! Personally I’d need to sub in gluten free pasta (instead of the normal pasta) and take out the onion, but how good is a fill-your-belly meal like this one that is easily customisable! https://www.newworld.co.nz/recipes/soup/hearty-minestrone Image: New World

Who to follow: Steven Bartlett
I wouldn’t be surprised if you already follow The Diary Of A CEO podcaster and best-selling author Steven Bartlett but here’s a reminder to check out his Instagram page (@steven) that is full of quotes and snippets from his podcast episodes if you haven’t already! Also if you’re in Auckland this month, Steven is heading your way! He is bringing The Business & Life Speaking Tour to The Civic on the 17th.
