*What was the inspiration for your project / company and how long had you been working on it before launching?
– The inspiration for starting my business was my daughter ..Tan in the City was born out of wanting to be able to support myself while being a stay at home mum and enjoy my time with my precious daughter who I had tried so hard to have for so long … little did I no It would grow into what it is today .. but its all grown in perfect timing with my daughter growing up and allowing me to have more time for the business too.

*Can you share with us what a typical day looks like for you?
–  I can admit that I spend far to much time in the technician role – so currently a typical day for me means im on the tools any where from 6-12 hours a day – being the “spray tanner” .. I do love what I do and the client interaction but def need to put more focus on working ON the business and not just in it..

*The industry that you’re in now, was that always a career pathway you wanted to explore? And if not always, what sparked your initial interest?

  • no I never imagined I would end up in the beauty industry .. the low investment start up funds needed / small time training to get started is what sparked my initial interest and then thankfully my interest in the service / industry has just kept growing.

*Do you have a highlight experience from your years of work in the creative space?

  • Securing the spot of preferred tanner for Dancing with Stars would be by highlight … and the gig itself .. all the tanning, all the meeting of the dancers and now the relationship I/we have with so many of them is the best highlight … plus we are now known to be the go to tan salon for lots of commercial work 🙂

*Can you share something that may surprise people about what could go on behind the scenes of your work?

  • a tanner never tells the secrets! ha ha .. no but I guess that could be the surprising part of our job – how personal our clients get with us – they trust us and we learn alot about them or hear their journeys and are here to support / encourage or be happy or sad with them… Also unfortunately there is ALOT of cleaning (the unglam side of spray tanning)

*Where would we find you in your spare time?

  • at home my family

*Best advice you’ve ever been given?

  • “if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you always got … so I take that as have the courage to make the changes or ask the questions as if you don’t nothing changes.
