I wanted to share a bit more about why I found the Coldplay concert so epic!
We haven’t been drinking recently, and after flying in from LA in the morning and working all day, I’ll admit, I was a bit worried it might be a ‘push’ to get my energy up to concert level without my usual crutch of chardonnay. But the positive vibes, emotions, and collective joy in the stadium completely took me by surprise, and I just had to share more about it!
The overall vibe of the show blended personal touches with Kiwi-specific moments. The kiss cams, celebrating audience members, and encouraging us to put our phones down set the tone for a playful and visually spectacular experience. What really struck me, though, was how we were all conducted by Chris, with his effortless yet incredibly high-energy performance. The way he spoke to us felt so genuine.
Kiwis are traditionally more of a ‘hang back’ crowd, rather than jumping right into participation (speaking as someone who spends a lot of time in the U.S.). So, seeing 57,000 Kiwis on their feet, phones down, dancing, and waving their wristbands to conduct the fireworks – it brings tears to my eyes even now. It was so powerful to feel that good energy flowing between us all.
And when they played Fix You, it was unforgettable. I took a moment to look around and saw nearly everyone crying and smiling as we were asked to reflect on the things we’ve personally overcome and the challenges our loved ones have faced. On the big screen, there were these beautiful shots of friends embracing, couples singing, and people with their eyes closed, singing their hearts out.
The show was BEAUTIFUL, and I just wanted to share my experience as a way of saying thank you to everyone who made it possible – to Eden Park, Coldplay, and the staff who worked so hard to make sure everyone had an amazing time.
The world feels heavy at the moment, and on behalf of the 57,000 Kiwis who attended, I can confidently say: we needed this, and we absolutely loved it!
