Happy September! Spring is in the air, finally! This month we chat about The Male Gayz podcast, Shit You Should Care About’s new book, the latest season of Double Parked plus a festival revolving around chocolate and coffee!
What to listen to: The Male Gayz
Kiwi comedians Chris Parker and Eli Matthewson have joined forces to create The Male Gayz podcast, with episodes covering hot topics and speaking with a variety of guests. Word on the street is that it took 8 years for Chris and Eli to come out to each other, and now we get to witness their wonderful bond and journey in a ‘weekly attempt at being better gays and better friends’. What to read: Make It Make Sense by Lucy Blakiston & Bel Hawkins
The powerhouse behind the iconic Shit You Should Care About account (that has a following of 3.3 million plus on Instagram alone) Lucy Blakiston has put pen to paper with the upcoming release, Make It Make Sense, alongside published writer Bel Hawkins. Readers will find a ‘collage of cultural analysis, anecdotes, personal essays, poems, and lists, interplayed like a conversation between friends’. You’ll be able to grab your copy of Make It Make Sense next week (due for release on the 12th). Image: Shit You Should Care About
What to watch: Double Parked
Local comedy series Double Parked, that is packed with a stellar cast (including Madeleine Sami, Antonia Prebble, Kura Forrester and Dominic Ona-Ariki) and crew, is back for season 2! If you haven’t already caught up on season 1, you can do that first on ThreeNow ahead of checking out the new episodes. To give you the low down, Double Parked follows Nat and Steph who receive a rough update about their latest round of IVF, drunkenly deciding to ‘take matters into their own hands along with their flatmates Johnny and Lily’. Check it out on ThreeNow! Image: ThreeNow
What to eat: Chocolate and Coffee Festival
Chocolate… and coffee? Need I say more?! The NZ Chocolate and Coffee Festival this month will have both of your fixes sussed with their two-day celebration of ‘chocolate, coffee and tasty treats!’ Head down to The Cloud in Auckland on the 28th or 29th to get amongst it – head over to their website (https://chocolatecoffeefestival.nz/) to explore some of the exhibitors taking part and masterclasses on offer for this year’s festivities. Who to follow: @babysixbeans
I’ll fully admit I get sucked into watching fun animal content! You may have already had this account pop up on your For You page, but six beans has become such a staple on mine – ‘another day, another slay’! The voiceover is hilarious and I would truly love if I saw six beans (a very cute kitty!) on my public transport transit… the account is @babysixbeans on TikTok if you’d like to take a look!
