May 2025 Faves

Happy May! This month we chat about NZ Music Month, broadcaster Ali Mau’s memoir, Homebound 3.0 is on its way, prepping meals & treats and a new Instagram account to check out!

What to listen to: NZ Music
It’s New Zealand Music Month | Te Marama Puoro o Aotearoa. While we support NZ music and creatives year round, this month gives another opportunity to celebrate their brilliance. Head out to a local gig, stream and buy Kiwi music, pick up a piece of their merchandise, share it with your family and friends, just to name a few! Head over to NZ Music Month’s website to check out their gig guide, their news updates and more: https://www.nzmusicmonth.co.nz/

What to read: Ali Mau – No Words for This
Journalist Alison Mau’s name is likely one you’ve heard – her extensive career in the media and news industry has made her a household name. She’s a co-founder of Tika (a digital platform delivering support and legal help to sexual violence survivors across the country), a huge champion behind the #MeToo movement and now an author, with her memoir No Words for This, released in the past week onto shelves. The Spinoff’s Alex Casey said ‘I don’t have the words right now to sum up just how gripping, revelatory, generous and layered this book is.’

What to eat: Meal prep + treats
I’m sure people can relate to sometimes being time poor when trying to put together dinner when they get home after a long day at work or throwing together a good lunch while you rush out the door… meal prepping may be a handy tool for this, and it’s easier said than done, I know! I came across fitness & health coach Bec’s Instagram page (she also has a YouTube for longer form content) and have been inspired to try some of her meal prep ideas! And there’s even some treats on there like she made Easter Egg rocky road last month, psst… have a gander! @bechardgrave

Who to follow: @theopeninvite
My explore page is always filled with different accounts that have inspirational quotes and I’m not mad about it at all! This month I’m shouting out The Open Invite – ‘a space where everyone is invited’. Need I say more? I love the quotes themselves and also the design of the posts – they’re all different and as their bio says ‘pass on the message’. Check out their page if you haven’t already – @theopeninvite
