I am incredibly proud of what we achieved in bringing Deathgasm 2 to life. At its core, this success is thanks to the funds we raised through crowdfunding, driven by the generosity of the Metal and Horror community. They wanted to see a second installment of Jason’s genius and to see their community on screen in a fun, bloody, and amazing way.
When we made the original a decade ago, we had no idea if anyone would even watch it. Now, 10 years later, the fans are more dedicated than ever (some driving over 8 hours just to visit the set), and the buzz is fantastic. Together, we created art.
I know the industry is undergoing a transformation right now, and it takes a lot of daily effort to stay positive. But I encourage you to surround yourself with people who are passionate about the craft. On set for this film, there were some very long days, often not wrapping until the early hours of the morning. Yet, while I was on my marks, ready to work, I would listen to the conversations of the local crew. They were often talking about films they love, memorable lines, inside jokes, or references—true cinephiles. It always brought a smile to my face because of their passion for the art form. Making movies and TV is fun; it’s a drug of choice for so many of us to escape, be seen, entertained, or challenged.
A shout-out also to the epic actors I had the pleasure of working with. I pride myself on rarely breaking character during a take (laughing), but I broke so many times thanks to the creative genius and improvisation of my peers on this film. This is a testament to their commitment to keeping a scene alive after our scripted lines are done and their brilliant contributions that pushed me to my limits.
This film, as crazy, silly, and brilliant as it is (as I write this, I am covered in fake blood with purple hair and fake tattoos at 3 a.m.), it is art made by artists, and I’m so freaking proud of it! Thank you Jason for gifting me Medina. I can’t wait for you all to see it! 🤘🏼
