How To Style Your Bedside Table

Ah, the bedside table. The bedside table is often overlooked when you think of what makes a bedroom great. After all, the bed IS the star of the show! The point is, a bedside table can take your bedroom from drab to fab. Because really, if you spend a lot of time in your bed, chances are you’ll be using your bedside table quite a bit. Or at the very least, seeing it from your peripheral vision while Netflix and chilling.

Want to take your bedroom game to the next level? Here are some tips on how to style your bedside table.

Live plants and fresh flowers

While real plants and flowers instantly breathe life into ANY space, it’s especially nice to have in the bedroom. Think about it: plants help clean air, and what better place to have that than in your bedroom? Fresh flowers help add prettiness and colour to your bedroom too. They need not be too expensive too – just pick freshly cut ones from your local supermarket! Most places have a little bouquet of roses for $5 and that goes a long way in spicing up your bedside table!

Stacks / Layers

A simple stack of books is visually stunning and functional at the same time. Have a big pile of books you’ve been meaning to get around to reading? Stack them up and use them as a focal point in your bedroom. Bonus points: it’s easier to remember to read when they’re literally somewhere you can see all the time. I’ve got a stack of my favourite book series and placed my night lamp on top and it’s one of my favourite little corners of the room. Speaking of night lamps….

Light/lamp

Trust me – you want some form of lighting in there! It’s especially handy if, like me, you’re a big reader too. A night light can change the mood of your bedroom quite dramatically. One of my favourite ways to wind down and relax before bed is switching off my main lights and turning my neon palm tree lamp on. It makes my bedroom feel like a neon dream, while keeping it dark and cozy so my body knows it’s almost time for bed!

Candles

Speaking of lighting… how about adding some candles? Because let’s be honest, one of the first things that truly make an impression when you walk into any space is how it smells. So why not have a sweet smelling room? Both my bedside tables have at least one candle at any given time, and I like mixing scents to give my room its own unique scent. Just make sure that your candles are on a flat surface, and take extra care when lighting one. I never leave it unattended, and make sure to only burn it until the recommended time.

Photos / Prints

Now for that extra personal touch that really make any bedroom your own – the photos and prints! I like getting photos printed out at my local Warehouse Stationery or I make prints myself (paper, Indian ink, and a brush is all you need!) and like to switch it up according to my mood. Another great thing to have framed in your bedside table is your favourite quote, or your goals. It’s the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you see at night. Make sure it’s inspiring!
